The charter season runs from May to October. May and June bring long days, comfortable temperatures and quieter anchorages. July and August are peak season across the Western Mediterranean, with warmer seas but higher demand for both yachts and marina berths. September is a favourite of many charter guests: sea temperatures remain warm, winds are steady and the coast is noticeably calmer. Early October holds well in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Typical charter duration

Most crewed Mediterranean charters run for seven nights, typically embarking Saturday afternoon and disembarking the following Saturday morning. Shoulder-season charters may accept shorter bookings, and longer charters of ten to fourteen nights work well for guests linking two regions — a common example is Sardinia through Corsica to the French Riviera, or Athens through the Cyclades.

What a crewed charter includes

The base charter fee typically includes the yacht, its professional crew, insurance and standard on-board equipment. It does not usually include running costs — fuel, food, beverages, communications, marina fees and taxes — which are managed either through an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) or a Mediterranean Yachting Association (MYBA) plus-expenses model, depending on the yacht's contract.

Charter rates and additional expenses

Weekly rates vary widely by yacht type, length, condition and season. As a rough orientation, high-season weekly rates on well-presented motor yachts start in the region of €80,000 and extend well into seven figures for large superyachts. Additional expenses commonly run between 25% and 35% of the base fee, though this depends on cruising pattern, guest preferences and marina choices.

How itineraries are planned

A charter itinerary is a collaboration between guest preferences, the captain's local experience and practical inputs such as prevailing wind, marina availability and clearance requirements between countries.
